Description:
Rhythms and sounds of African origin and inspiration find their way into the family seder, the ritual meal and service of the springtime Jewish holiday of Passover. Most of the selections are traditional Passover melodies with Hebrew texts. There are also a few original songs and "Go Down, Moses," all in English. The songs are arranged for reggae band, traditional West African drumming ensembles, or some combination of the two. The performances on this recording are the work of two dozen extraordinarily talented and generous artists, many with international reputations. They range from reggae stylists to cantors to African drummers, and their ethnic backgrounds, geographical origins, and religious affiliations span a wide spectrum. (Copyright 1996 Mr. E Records)
