For generations, the velvet or satin covering of the Bimah, the stand upon which the Torah is read, as well as the Bein Gavrah, the cover placed on a Torah scroll between aliyous, has been a place for the community to show their love for Torah. It is richly adorned with gold and silver threads in motifs that reflect the community's and the donor's taste. The name of the donor with the occasion for which the adornment was donated are traditionally embroidered into the cloth.
