Rabbi Shlomo Goren was a recognized illui (genius in talmud) and was the youngest student accepted to the famed Hebron yeshiva at age 14. He was the founding Chief Rabbi of the Israeli Army and actively served as a soldier. He was the Ashkenazi co-Chief Rabbi of Israel with Rabbi Ovadia Yosef and was a strong minded and brilliant individual with ongoing contact, and controversies, with the greatest rabbinic and political leaders of his time.
