Description: L'cha Dodi is the highlight of the Kabbalat Shabbat service. welcome the shabbat into you homw with the same words " l'cha dodi l'krat kallah, p'nai Shabbat nikablah" Come my beloved towards the Shabbat, the face of the bride we shall greet". Jews were among the earliest merchants of the Silk Road often importing silk, spices and other fine goods from the east into Europe. The Indian gold brocade used int his piece is a reference to our historical connection to fine exotics silks. The text has been calligraphed freehand onto the lavender ottoman silk with the lovely ribbed surface. The letters have been calligraphed freehand and then further embellished in the manner of old world manuscripts. The motif for the meandering vine was used extensively in manuscripts and decorative objects created along the Silk Road and brought back to the West.
