Molly - Ellis Island Doll Collection
The features, costumes and background stories of the Ellis Island Collection of Porcelain Dolls are inspired by the collected memories of the descendants of Eastern European Jews who immigrated to America through Ellis Island in the late 1800s. Molly`s father, a learned man, had a fine career as a professor associated with a well known university. Several years ago, her mother established herself as a dressmaker to some of the richest ladies of the town. Mama made all of Molly™s clothes, including the traveling costume she wears here. Most often, Mama used bits of left over cloth and trim from projects she completed for her clients, including the deep brown velvet from which Molly™s jacket and hat were made, and the lovely brown fabric of Molly™s dress, and jacket and hat trim. Three decorative buttons trim the bodice of the dress. The lace used to trim the skirt once was used to trim a fine silk coverlet. The doll has a porcelain head, arms, hands, legs and feet and a cloth covered stuffed body. A sturdy plastic doll stand included. Ht: 20"
