The Friderdiker Rebbe and the Yeshiva Tomchei Temimim were in the Polish city of Otwock, when the German army began bombarding the city with their massive air force.

The Rebbe Rayatz advised the Yeshiva students to immediately leave Poland. After three days the Rebbe also left together with his family, a few Chassidim, and some students that couldn’t part with the Rebbe.

They arrived in Warsaw only a few days before Rosh Hashana 5700 (1939). For Rosh Hashana, many of the Yidden came together to Daven in a cellar. Suddenly in the middle of Davening a huge noise shook the whole cellar. A nearby building had been bombed. The Rebbe immediately told the people near him to go out and help rescue those trapped inside.

Five days later, on the first day of Sukkos, the Polish army surrendered to the Germans. The Frierdiker Rebbe was now on German soil.

Chassidim in America quickly mobilized to rescue the Rebbe, they knew that they had no time to waste.

Would they succeed in getting American officials to help rescue the Rebbe?

Will the Americans be able to help?

Could German soldiers help the rescue efforts?
