MEDITATIONS AT TWILIGHT ON GENESIS

by Rabbi Melvin Granatstein

Hardcover, 159 pages
Urim Publications, 2015
ISBN: 978-965-524-167-9

In Meditations at Twilight on Genesis, Rabbi Melvin Granatstein presents conceptual frameworks for all of the major narratives in Genesis, beginning with Creation and ending with the death of Joseph. The book captures the religious and moral underpinnings of the Biblical sagas, and in the process exposes the reader to vital insights of both traditional commentaries and modern scholarship. The essays in this volume demonstrate that the Torah presents far more than simple tales. It speaks to the deepest concerns of the human spirit.

About the Author:
Rabbi Melvin Granatstein was ordained at the Rabbi Isaac Elchanan Theological Seminary of Yeshiva University. He served as the Congregational Rabbi for 37 years at the Green Road Synagogue in Beachwood, Ohio, a suburb of Cleveland, recognized for his teachings of Bible, Talmud, Jewish thought, and Jewish history. He was among the founders of the Fuchs Mizrachi School in Cleveland and served as the Head of its Vaad Hahinuch for many years, directing its educational program. The school's goal is to educate Jewish youth toward engaging in critical thinking, both in Torah and general studies, and to become articulate representatives of the classical Jewish way of life. Rabbi Granatstein has lectured broadly in the community and has published numerous articles. He is currently Rabbi Emeritus at Green Road Synagogue, where he continues to teach and engage with Jews of all ages and backgrounds.

Praise for Meditations at Twilight on Genesis:
"When the Sages advised turning the Torah 'over and over again' to reveal new facets, they had Meditations at Twilight on Genesis in mind. Rabbi Granatstein's studies of the weekly parashah combine philosophical and literary insights, written in a lucid style that make them a pleasure to read."
- Moshe Sokolow, Professor of Jewish Education, Azrieli Graduate School, Yeshiva University
