Because He Cared

While still very young, Rabbi Moshe Neuman became the menahel of Bais Yaakov of Queens. He started with 27 girls in something that could hardly be called a school building. In his fifty years of leadership, as the school grew and grew and grew, thousands of girls received his chinuch -- and his caring. Caring? This menahel would bend over to tie a preschooler’s shoes. He’d discreetly help an impoverished seventh-grader with funds to buy a dress for yom tov, and give a surly sixth-grader a bowl of cereal when he learned she’d skipped breakfast. Discipline when needed? Absolutely. Leadership when necessary? For sure. But firmness was always coupled with love and respect for parents, teachers and, above all, students.
